I want all of my customers to be happy with their websites and will work to communicate well throughout the process and make a lovely site that works the way you want it to. I also provide upkeep services as requested.

Background

I’ve started building and maintaining websites for small businesses as a side project to my painting. It started out as kind of a fluke. I used to do a little web design when I was a scientific/biomedical illustration freelancer. Recently I have fixed up a few websites for small businesses, and of course, I build and run my own websites. I’ve found that it’s pretty satisfying, and am making myself available to create/do a facelift on one or two WordPress websites a month.

If you’re interested in this service, here’s a little info about what I do.

So far the businesses I’ve worked with have wanted blog-sites that they can update/post to themselves, but they want someone else to build or fix it and make sure it keeps working. The process and costs below are for this sort of site. If you’re interested in something else, just let me know and I’ll get you a personalized bid.

Process

Lets talk on the phone. The call will take between 1/4 and 1 hour. I’ll ask a lot of questions about how you want your web site to look and function. If you have some examples of web sites that you like, that helps. If you have a current web site that needs a face-lift or an overhaul, we’ll talk about what needs to change and what you like.

If you are starting from scratch, have your ideas ready. If you have examples of web sites that have the functionality or look that you like, that helps.

Costs

Small Updates to an existing site.

$49/hour, with a two hour minimum.

Having all of your login information ready and your desired changes thought out will minimize the time charged.

Basic WordPress site, bare bones.

Initial setup is a minimum of $450.

This includes a one-hour consultation to discuss your website needs, and 9 hours of set up time. At the end of this time, the bare bones of your site will be the way you want them, and a few of your images and sample text will be on your site. You will still need to add in the majority of your images and text.

If it looks like your project will need more than 9 hours to set up, I’ll let you know and get your approval before going over. Additional time working on your site will be $45/hour. If it takes less than 10 hours, any extra hours can be applied to monthly maintenance or as-needed updates. Monthly maintenance is optional but recommended for WordPress sites.

Time Savers

Knowing what theme you want (and wanting a theme that’s easy to work with – I can make suggestions), having all of your login information ready for your domain name host and web host, knowing what you want in your site, and uploading your images and content as directed will help this project stay on budget.

Extras

I am happy to provide the services below as needed. They will probably push your project over the basic setup time / cost (and cost of 3rd party service for URL & hosting will be passed to you).

– Help find URL  (3rd party service)
– Help with purchasing web hosting (3rd party service)
– Helping with a theme search, or working with a difficult theme
– Image editing
– Content (text) creation or editing
– Logo design
– Teaching you how to update your site

Examples of My Work

CareanKaso.com – An artist portfolio website showcasing her fascinating sculpted faces.

GopherGoo.com – A scientific website, following the scientific aesthetic.

When I started work on this project, the client’s wordpress website had become outdated, broken, and the design no longer reflected what she wanted.

– I quickly got the website to function again.

– I then provided design and development to get her website the way she wanted.

– I updated the overall design and functionality to look professional and reflect the client’s aesthetics and functional needs.

– Over several months, as the client developed new content, I created new pages

– Created new graphics using Photoshop

– Edited photos

Basic WordPress site with Woocommerce, bare bones.

Initial setup is a minimum of $1800.

– Installing the theme of your choice, woocommerce, and basic plugins for SEO, contact forms, and spam control.
– Requesting SSL through your web host (needed security for a commerce site).
– Setting up your home page, contact page, and about page.
– Adding several product categories and your first 10 products.
– Styling your product pages and categories to look and function well.
– Setting up woocommerce with your bank and paypal accounts.

The price includes 40 hours of set up time. If it looks like your project will need more than 40 hours to set up, I’ll let you know right away and get your approval before going over. Additional time working on your site will be $45/hour. If it takes less than 40 hours, any extra hours can be applied to monthly maintenance or as-needed updates. Monthly maintenance is optional but recommended.
