Portrait artist paints still life: One In the Shade

This setup was a process of reduction. It started off with three garlic bulbs, then 2 garlic bulbs and a bunch of pieces, then no bulbs and a bunch of pieces… fewer and fewer and finally just these few pieces. I like that they all seem to be sitting on their bottoms and pointing in the same direction.

I’ve been wishing I could get those colorful shadows in my setups that you get from sunlight (and of course there’s no actual sunlight at 4am in the middle of the winter in South Dakota). And I remembered that I have a ‘daylight filter’. I’m going to try that out tomorrow.
