A few added yellow and orange pallet knife marks in the grass, so that the angular pallet knife marks in the wild trees in the background are echoed in the foreground, and this painting is complete.

I was overwhelmed by the response to this painting, with over 200 likes between the couple posts I put out about it, and some emailed comments too. Thank you so much!

As you may have noticed, growing the number of collectors and potential collectors on my newsletter list is my top business priority this year. If you have any suggestions about how to do that, please let me know!

The winner of the drawing last week hasn’t contacted me, so this week I’m giving away two prints! The winner can choose a print of either My Wild Heart or Girl Next Door, winner’s choice! I hope that shows my appreciation?

Garlic In Nature

Today I wanted to try painting garlic again with natural light from the sun. I chased the shadows – if felt a lot like plein air painting.

I’ve been playing with ‘mixing white’ lately, which is a transparent color. It’s fun to use, but I end up using a LOT more paint. Can you tell how thick the paint is?

Playing In The Dirt

Playing In The Dirt / 6 x 8 in /oil on linen

I wanted to capture the beets as they come out of the garden – dirt and all. What do you think?

Thank you Heidi for giving me these beautiful beets!

I’ve been limiting my pallet lately in a new arrangement – ultramarine blue, quin red, and lemon yellow (for the most part). I’m usually drawn to the warm colors on my pallet, so I’m surprised that I just love this color combination.

Orcas Island

“Orcas Island” / 6 in x 8 in, oil on wood / $180

We stayed in a bungalow (Buckhorn Farm Bungalow) last week on Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands. It was really beautiful and relaxing, and I got in a couple of plein air paintings. This is a shed on the farm we stayed at with huge evergreen trees behind it and a fence to the left that surrounded a garden.

There are a couple weeks left of the contest. To enter, comment on this or another painting (by clicking the word “Comment” below the post), or sign up as a facebook fan or for my newsletter .
