Here’s a quick charcoal sketch from drawing group this week. We had a great young model. Here he’s reading a good book and trying not to laugh. Hope it makes you smile.

Anyone who would like to come model for a sketch and painting in my studio, contact me. You’ll get to keep a quick sketch, and I’ll keep the painting (unless you want to purchase it).

This week I’ve been sketching and sketching for a big multi-painting commissioned project. I am so excited about how this will turn out, and can’t wait to start showing you the in-progress paintings. So far I’ve made 100 little sketches working through my own thoughts on the project and to get a better understanding of the client’s wishes. Usually, a commissioned painting requires a couple sketches, but this project is a little different. You’ll see why when I start posting progress photos. Since I don’t have new paintings to show you this week, I thought I’d offer you a nice spring sale! Enjoy!

Holiday Gift Portrait, sailboat in progress, and under cover.

Today I finished a lovely portrait I’ve been working on for a week. I can’t wait to find out if it makes the collector’s gift recipient happy. I hope so! I feel like it’s some of my best work yet.

I’ll show you after the holidays. 🙂

And then I’ve gotten started on a series of large sailboat paintings.  There will be several of them, all 40″ x 40″. I’m just at the start, but I like this sketchy step…

AND… One of my paintings was on TV! Twice!

Here’s the latest one. It’s the 2017 holiday gift guide from Hood Magazine on KDLT in Sioux Falls. Steff mentions me (very nicely!!) at 2:27 in. I’ve got a lovely add in Hood magazine, and they took my work onto two TV stations.. This magazine has been so good to me! I recommend them wholeheartedly.

If you’re in Sioux Falls and you want to know what family events to check out, check out Hood Magazine.

And finally, here’s a happy painting! Under Cover, 8×8 inches, available.

A Well Pressed Shirt, portrait of working man

portrait painting, by Rasche
I am feeling very inspired to paint more of this sort of portrait – of people doing their thing. If you’re a local business owner, and it would be OK for me to come out and take pictures (or paint on site) of you or your staff cooking, tending the till, feeding cows, constructing a house… anything like that… call or send me an email.

(This portrait painting is almost done with it’s museum tour!)

Your Reflection, abstract painting #1 for 2017

I’m starting off the new year with an abstract painting. I really enjoyed just getting into the raw colors and composition on this one. I find that painting abstractly energizes me and helps me. Because I  almost never post my abstract pieces, I’m not sure how to price it – so I’m just opening it up for bid: Click to Bid

Cow painting (available). Minnesota and South Dakota landscape paintings.

Happy Valentines Day! I’m feeling super grateful for my wonderful husband, son, family and friends.

This morning I finished Girl Next Door. This is another luxuriously thick painting with a lot of brush strokes and pallet knife marks. I uploaded the detail photo to show the thickness and texture. Click here for more info.

The giveaway for this Friday will be a print of this painting! I’m really trying to grow my newsletter subscribership, so PLEASE share with your friends! I’ll draw from all newsletter subscribers – girl-next-door-detail

Totally non-painting related personal note: We’re getting our new house keys Friday morning! Yay! And this afternoon we do the walk-through and get to decide exactly where my son’s new hockey tournament metal will go. 🙂

The studio is already completely mapped out in my head. And I have have time for 1  last commission for February, so if you have been thinking about commissioning a portrait, this is a great time to call me.

About this painting

I love painting fruit and flowers and wanted to add some figures into the mix, so I recently brought home 2 angels (and a bird that has already appeared in a painting) for still life setups. The angel shown here has a beautiful deep pink marbled glass body and a sweet shape. She looks like she’s watching over the oranges. This painting has warm tones of pinks, purples, oranges, and a little red where the vase and oranges reflect off of each other, and white daisies and cutting boards.

This is an original oil painting by American artist Jessie Rasche. Jessie has shown in galleries in Washington and California and paints in her studio in South Dakota. Jessie’s artwork has been described as Plein Air Style, Impressionist, Energetic, and occasionally Whimsical or Soft.
