portrait of Buddy, our cat – in the planning stage

We lost our beloved cat of 14 years last weekend. I’ve been a bit of a mess, to be honest. I asked my hubby if he’d like a portrait of Buddy, since it seemed like … I’ve painted several pet portraits. After thinking about it, he said yes. So I started looking for pictures and realized I only have a couple. Buddy was always there, but rarely photographed. Like, I only found 2. So I’m going to take some photos of some similarly shaped cats to use for getting the shapes right, and then use the 2 photos of Buddy for reference for the specifics of him. I’m trying to decide what was the most quintessentially Buddy… Sleeping on my hubby’s legs, sitting right behind a person on the couch, getting crazy over laser pointers on the wall… maybe that one.

I had the honor of painting a memorial painting of a beautiful dog, Presley, not too long ago, and I was pretty choked up painting it… So this painting is sure to be an emotional roller coaster. But I think that is a good thing.
