Turnaround Time

That varies depending on how booked out I am, and the complexity of your painting. I can give you specific turnaround time when we talk. If you have a deadline such as a birthday, get ahold of me right away so that I can get your project on my schedule.

Love it Guarantee

I hope you will love your painting, and that it will bring you joy for decades to come.

I put my heart and soul into all of my paintings, and so far, all of my collectors have reported that they love their paintings when they are complete. If, however, you are not happy with your portrait painting, let me know and we can talk about whether or not some changes to the painting would make you love it. I’ll either make changes or refund the payments you have made beyond the non-refundable deposit.

I want each collector to love their painting, and will do what I can to make sure that happens!

Thank you,

Process: How a Portrait Painting Comes to Life

Professionally, carefully crafted oil paintings take time and skill.

Here are some of the steps that were involved in a recent portrait of a lovely young woman and her stunning horse, commissioned by the girl’s loving grandmother.

First, I visited with the client and took many photos of the girl interacting with her horse, and then searched through the photos looking for ones that captured their personality and relationship. There was a client-visit to the studio to see paintings of different sizes and to help them decide on the right size for them.

The video above starts with me sketching up some of the collector’s favorite poses, to help with decision making. When the focus is narrowed down to just the young woman and horse, it’s easier to see what will come through in the portrait painting.

Above is a video showing how the painting came together from sketch to completion.

How the Commissioning Process Works

We talk in person, or by email or phone about what you hope to have captured and your size and budget needs. Starting the process with a conversation ensures that you get a painting you’ll love.

If I feel I am the right artist for your project, and you are ready to book your portrait painting, the deposit is due. If you’re local to Brookings or Sioux Falls, or within a few hours driving distance, I’ll come to you and take photos and make sketches and notes. When you’re happy with the plan, I’ll paint the portrait, keeping you updated along the way. When I think it’s finished and great, I’ll show you the final image for your approval. After you approve the portrait, I’ll deliver it to your door or ship it to you.

You now own a beautiful, unique and original portrait painting celebrating your love.
