Light through the Window, oil painting in progress, Minnesota and South Dakota portrait artists

Space ● SOLD

This painting is very close to done, but still in progress. It’s the time between when a painting seems almost done and when it’s actually done that often takes the most time, for me.

After just finishing a big portrait painting last week (which came out really well, but I forgot to take a photo before handing it off), I wanted to do a painting of my son that is sort of an anti-portrait. He’s reading Calvin and Hobbes while the puppy looks out the window. I’m really happy with how this painting is coming out – with the design and color-shapes; but there are some little things I really want to finesse.

Contact me about a portrait or (anti-portrait).

Portrait artist paints Cooing – painting of mom carrying baby

Cooing / 5 x 7 inches / available on my paintings of people page /a portrait of you and your baby

This is the first painting I’ve finished in some time and I’m really excited to have finished. This is painted from a photo, and is part of my Mom Loving series. I’m saving it for my first Midwestern show in South Dakota.

I’ve painted this woman once before – Baby Carrier, in Watercolor Paintings – and she makes a beautiful model.

If you’re interested in commissions, or want to learn more about the Mom Loving series, please email me.

Scarlett – portrait painting of mom and baby in love by artist Jessie Rasche

Thank you Katie for sharing your photo!

This one has so many layers. Through the whole process I was really happy with the drawing, but had a hard time resolving the colors and especially the values. I think it turned out really well in the end. They look so in love.

Commission

I just finished the largest portrait commission I’ve done so far. I worked really hard on it and am very happy with the results, but was pretty anxious waiting for the collector’s feedback… But he said it’s “wonderful.” Yeah! I don’t want to spoil any holiday surprises, so here is just a tiny piece of the painting.

Just started an orange painting this morning.

Kite Mountain 2 – painting of mom and son snuggling by portrait artist

“Kite 2” / 6×6 in / oil on linen unframed / see all available figurative paintings

This mom and boy were in their own private world watching kites together at Kite Mountain in Seattle, Washington this summer. I just love these public snuggles… Mom loving painting #24 – there are only 6 more Mom Loving paintings to complete the project. Email me if you’d like to submit a photo for one.

This is what the painting would look like framed.

“Dinoball” and Yeah! – hands and toy by portrait artist

“Dinoball” / 6″ x 8″ / oil on linen / See Available Still Life Paintings

This is a painting of my son working a toy. I loved the light coming through his fingers, and that the toy looks like a baby bird or dinosaur.

4 of my paintings were accepted into Randy Higbee Gallery’s 6 Inch Squared show! Yeah!
